It waits, reads the water, then lands in one clean motion.
The kingfisher doesn't flap around hoping to get lucky. It sits still, reads the water and commits to a single dive. That's how every template in this library is built: one clear idea, executed without wasted motion.
NOTE 01 · ENGINEERING
A beak that redesigned a bullet train
Japan's 500-series Shinkansen made a loud boom every time it left a tunnel. Engineer Eiji Nakatsu reshaped the train's nose after the kingfisher's beak, which enters water with barely a splash. The train got quieter and more efficient.
→ FORM THAT FOLLOWS FUNCTION, NOT DECORATION
NOTE 02 · COLOUR
That blue isn't pigment
Kingfisher blue is structural colour: tiny structures in the feathers scatter light. Change the angle and the blue shifts from teal to cobalt.
NOTE 03 · FOCUS
Built-in goggles
A clear third eyelid, the nictitating membrane, closes as the bird hits the water, so it keeps its eyes open and on the target.
→ NOTHING BREAKS THE USER'S FOCUS
NOTE 04 · PATIENCE
Most of the hunt is sitting still
It spends long stretches motionless on a low perch, then strikes in under a second. Our hero animations work the same way: one moment of motion, then a calm, still page.
LENGTH01
16cmSparrow-sized, with a beak a quarter of its length.
WEIGHT02
BIRD · GOLF BALL
~40gLighter than a golf ball, and all of it built for speed.
COLOUR03
ZeroBlue pigment in its feathers. The shine is pure structure.
